2022 Draycott Reserve Shiraz comes from Burge Family’s Draycott Vineyard, where deep clay soils over limestone create ideal conditions for premium red grapes. The vines “work hard,” producing small berries with concentrated flavours, firm tannins, and impressive longevity. Clay’s natural moisture retention allows roots to draw essential water.
Crafted from Burge Family’s oldest Shiraz vines, this wine reflects the excellence of the 2022 vintage. Deep in colour, it opens with aromas of blackberry, plum, and creamy oak. The palate is rich and full-bodied, layered with dark fruits, silky tannins, and hints of vanilla from oak maturation. Subtle spice and pepper add complexity, leading to a long, elegant finish—a pure expression of depth, structure, and Barossa Shiraz elegance.
Product Description
This Draycott Reserve Shiraz is a selection of only the best barrels from our oldest blocks of Shiraz. Additionally, the wine is only released in the great vintages. All the fruit from the Burge Family Winemakers is hand-picked ensuring the fruit is in pristine condition when it reaches the winery. Time honoured, small batch winemaking techniques are employed, with wild fermentation encouraged, as well as extended time on skins. The wine was matured in a mix of new French and American hogsheads to impart complementary cedary notes and add complexity. The wine naturally clarified, so no bottling filtration was required. The wine was bottled after being in oak for 30 months.
