Product Description

Vintage
2022 was another classic Barossa Valley vintage with good winter rains and
a cool growing season, the Zinfandel grapes matured slowly, accumulating
flavour while retaining good acidity. This slow ripening allowed picking at
optimum maturity with amazing balance of natural acidity and delicate
fruit flavours. Perfect for Rose!
Vineyards
The Zinfandel was picked from the Burge Family Estate Vineyard in
Lyndoch in the Southern part of the Barossa Valley. The fruit is picked
earlier to ensure lower alcohol levels, brighter colour and great fresh
acidity. The vineyard has classic Rose growing soil, a sandy loam over clay.
The 20-year-old Zinfandel vines are a fantastic choice for Rose, with its
large juicy berries and tendency to hold its acid.
Winemaking
This Rose is produced by the technique used by all the great Rose makers
in the world. The grapes are crushed, chilled and go straight into the press.
The grapes are left on the skins, with the press rotated every so often, until
the juice has acquired the appropriate flavour and hue. The Zinfandel is
then gently pressed with the “hard” pressings fraction discarded. The wine
then is settled and racked. About 10% solids goes in with the clear juice to
add some texture and interest to the palate. Once fermentation is complete
the wine is stabilised, racked and filtered to preserve the natural fruit and
vibrancy of the wine.
Tasting Notes
Pale pink/watermelon in hue. The nose has lifted notes of wild strawberry,
raspberry and florals. The palate is bright but full of complex characters
like strawberry, orange rind, stone fruits and rosewater. The flavours are
bolstered with textural characters that fill out the palate and add a rich
viscous creaminess to the palate. The soft/approachable palate plays out
with great length of peach and bright berry fruit.
Ageing
Drink young for its vibrancy and freshness. Now or in the next couple of
years.
Food Pairing
Try with kingfish ceviche.
